    Vice President Joe Biden is visiting an East Hartford college to discuss workforce development issues.  The Democrat was scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion at Goodwin College on Wednesday. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to join Biden for the event, which Malloy's office said will highlight the school's new Certified Production Technician program. It's a collaborative effort between small and large employers.

    Some residents in southern Connecticut say they were awoken by their homes shaking, and the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a minor earthquake. The Geological Survey says a 2.7-magnitude quake was recorded in Deep River shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday. No injuries or damage have been reported. State police say they received several calls from people who said their homes shook briefly Thursday morning.

    The cleanup has begun in some parts of Long Island while others continue to deal with flooding from heavy rain fall that began late Tuesday and intensified on Wednesday. Cars remain stranded after rain pounded the area. More than 13 inches of rain fell in Islip. The National Weather Service said the rain was the largest event on record for New York State in a 24-hour period.
