(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Valentine's Day is right around the corner and for many it's financially stressful and emotional taxing on their relationships. But Dr. Craig Malkin from YM Psychotherapy and Consultation has some scientific tips to help make cupids favorite day fun and bring you closer to your partner.

Dr. Malkin offers substantiated advice to help alleviate Valentine's angst and improve commitment:

Save money on dinner, try touching at home. Dr. Malkin lists romance boosters that scientifically enhance the laws of attraction. Take aphrodisiacs and pheromones out of the equation, he says, and focus on the cuddle hormone, oxytocin. Oxytocin is released through touch and the more partners touch (old or new), the closer and more trusting they feel. Evidence proves that the touch, look, listen, laugh, and explore all lead to attraction.

Have a funny Valentine. Dr. Malkin dissects the science of being funny and how it helps a relationship. Turns out, humor's a turn on for everyone; in an effect Dr, Malkin coins "survival of the funniest," men and women alike rank humor high on the list of what they want in a mate, but women rank it even higher. But you don't have to be in stand-up: with the attraction-boosting effects of laughter, any couple can rekindle romance by exploring improv comedy or a funny movie together.

Stay crazy in love, even when he/she forgets flowers and chocolate. Blinded by the glow of romantic love, new lovers tend to miss the faults and disappointments in those loved the most. Dr. Malkin says there may be a powerful neurological component to love-blindness. Maybe love isn't just blind; maybe it's also numb. This effect can make one numb to the negative aspects of a partner who may not be the best choice long-term.

Seize the Valentine's Day. It takes careful thought and adept organization skills to prepare for a day at the beach with kids. Making advanced arrangements for children can feel like another full time job.
