YARMOUTH - Officers attempted to arrested three men yesterday for distribution of crack cocaine in the Stop and Shop parking lot on Station Avenue in South Yarmouth.
Officers approached the suspects and placed one immediately under arrest. The other two men sped off in a van through the crowded parking lot. They smashed through a Yarmouth Police cruiser and continued out on to Station Avenue.
Yarmouth and Massachusetts State Police pursued the vehicle and observed several baggies of illegal drugs being thrown out the window as it travelled northbound on Union Street in Yarmouthport.
The vehicle came to a stop in front of 145 Union St. The driver resisted arrest, ignored verbal directions, and repeatedly punched and kicked police. He was eventually subdued with physical force in conjunction and a Taser and taken into custody.
All three suspects were held overnight at Yarmouth Police Headquarters on $50,000 cash bail and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning for arraignment of a variety of wide-ranging felony and misdemeanor criminal charges.
Officers were treated and subsequently released and are currently under follow-up medical care for hand and back injuries.
The 2009 fully marked and equipped Ford Crown Victoria Police cruiser was severely damaged and is not drivable.
United States Customs and Immigration officials have been contacted and are actively reviewing the identity and customs and immigration status of all three suspects.
This information was supplied by law enforcement and describes recent arrests and charges. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
