Local contractor busted for falsifying building permits

WESTPORT, Mass. (FOX25, myfoxboston) - A contractor has been arrested today for identify fraud after he was caught falsifying building permit applications in several locations.

Dinarte “Dean” Macedo, 34, owner of Cambrooke Roofing, has been charged with five counts of identity fraud.

Macedo had been a sub-contractor for Roland Hebert, Inc. While employed there, Macedo obtained copies of a co-owners contractor’s license and worker’s compensation information.

He does not have a contractor’s license or workers compensation insurance for his company. Therefore, Macedo applied for and obtained building permits in multiple communities, including New Bedford, Somerset, Swansea, Fall River and Tiverton, R.I., by naming Herbert, Inc. as the contractor.

These illegal practices did not come to light until poor construction practices people to contact Herbert, Inc.

In one incident in New Bedford, a worker fell from the roof of a three-story home and because he sustained an injury, he placed an insurance claim through the Department of Industrial Accidents. The department, in connection with Westport police, opened an identity fraud investigation.

If found guilty, Macedo can pay a fine of $5,000 or serve up to two and a half years in prison.

The Westport Police are asking that anyone with additional information related to Macedo using the name of Hebert Construction to contact the detective division at (508) 636-1122.
