CNN reported that the owner of the store identified the man in the video as Hasan. The owner (who was not named in the story) said that Hasan came into the store that morning. The owner said that through his brief talks with Hasan he learned the officer's background was Jordanian, though he didn't speak Arabic well.
"He looked normal, came in had his hashbrowns and coffee as you see in the surveillance video," the owner told CNN .
The man in the video looks relaxed and unassuming. And the owner stated that there was nothing out of the ordinary with his interaction.
The owner also said that Hasan would occasionally jokingly ask whether he had a bride for him.
Tracy Sabo, a producer for CNN , stated that she spoke with the owner for several hours and that he said that Hasan was a regular customer and he knew him by his first name. The owner also said that Hasan would come into the store dressed in his Army fatigues, or traditional robes, or at times in medical scrubs.
Thursday afternoon on the Fort Hood Army post the shooting rampage began at 1:30 when the Army said Hasan entered the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theater and opened fire using two handguns. Hasan was shot, and was initially reported dead, but is on a ventilator and unconscious in a hospital. He was shot four times.
Thursday evening local police barricaded and evacuated an apartment complex in downtown Killeen , Texas, where Hasan lived.
