Local woman witness to Discovery Channel shooting

PETERBORO, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - She was just trying to do her job when an armed intruder burst in and started taking hostages last week at the Discovery Channel building in Maryland.

One of the employees is from New Hampshire. She's back home and talking about that frightening ordeal, only to Fox 25.

Melissa Shephard - a mother of two- is a contract employee at Discovery Communications. She flies to Maryland every week and then back home to New Hampshire on the weekends.

This weekend more than ever, she is glad to be safe and sound at home.

Melissa was in the conference room directly above where 43-year-old James Lee took his hostages. Melissa learned from coworkers and radio that Lee was carrying explosives.

She was shuffled around different part of the building before being evacuated. Melissa went back the next day and says she is not worried about starting work again.

Some of the longtime employees at discovery were aware of Lee and his extremist views, however Melissa had never heard of him.
