WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester police say a bus packed with as many as 40 passengers was struck eight times by projectiles apparently fired from a pellet gun.

Police say one elderly passenger was transported to a hospital after saying he was struck in the chest by glass, but no glass was found inside the Worcester Regional Transit Authority bus. The vehicle suffered damage, including a cracked windshield.

No one has been arrested in connection the shooting at about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Main Street, not far from City Hall.

John Carney, general manager of the company that operates the buses, tells The Telegram & Gazette that the bus was stopped and lowered to let passengers on and off when the pellets struck. He says the driver, whom he did not identify, followed proper procedure.
