MATTAPAN - Two kittens found covered in grease and oil may be victims of animal cruelty, the MSPCA says.
The kittens, named Grease and Monkey, were discovered on a porch in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood on Friday.
Grease and Monkey are now in the care of the MSPCA and receiving daily baths. They could go up for adoption soon.
The MSPCA says they see a rise in animal cruelty allegations during the summertime.
“Animal cruelty occurs throughout the year, however over the past six years allegations of animal cruelty climb by about 33 percent each July and August,” said Peter Gollub, the MSPCA’s Director of Law Enforcement.
"There are many contributing factors to the increase in allegations of animal cruelty including a rise in outdoor temperatures, increased pet abandonment during the warmer months and the fact that people are out and about more often during July and August to witness acts of animal cruelty."
