2 firefighters die while battling Bridgeport house fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - Two firefighters died Saturday afternoon while battling a house fire in Bridgeport.

The Connecticut Post reports that Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baiks died while at the scene of a house fire at 41 Elmwood Ave., a multi-family wood structure that had heavy smoke coming from the second and third floors.

Two firemen were found unconscious on the third floor. CPR was performed but they could not be revived. They were taken to St. Vincent's and Bridgeport hospitals where they were later pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
