HOLBROOK, Mass. (myfoxboston) - A Holbrook baseball diamond was dedicated on Saturday in memory of local teenager Sean Joyce, who was a victim of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus.
The athletic 13-year-old contracted the virus from a mosquito bite in 2004 and died just a week later.
His parents want to keep his memory alive, and many of Sean's classmates, now seniors at Holbrook High, christened the field in Sean's honor.
The land was donated by a Holbrook family.
The Holbrook High baseball players now wear the letters “SJ” on their caps.
The Holbrook team won the Mayflower League this year and are awaiting the first round of the playoffs.
