NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (myfoxboston) - A North Attleboro park dedicated in remembrance of a little girl has been vandalized for the sixth time. Someone broke into the wishing well and stole the money out of it.
The playground and garden is called Julia’s Place, named after Julia Cekala, who died of Pancreatitis on 2003.
“Julia really didn’t let any of her medical issues hold her back. She was a fighter 'til the very end,” her father, Wally Cekala, said.
Her family came up with a way to honor her, and built and maintains the park on land donated by the town.
But since it opened, the park has been vandalized half a dozen times, and the primary target is always the wishing well.
“They sledgehammered and got it off and got the money out,” her father Wally Cekala said.
“It’s not good to steal from anybody, but it just seems kind of heartless to steal from a charity,” he said.
All of the donations go toward the maintenance of the park.
The damage was repaired within hours and a new lock was added.
There are surveillance cameras in the park, but police did not say whether they had any suspects.
