BOSTON (AP) - Like other struggling states, Massachusetts is looking anywhere it can for jobs and cash -- and it's hoping the virtual world of video game technology, with its mix of fantasy and rabid fans, may lead to a pot of real gold.
Metropolitan Boston is already home to top gaming companies like the developers of "Rock Band," "BioShock" and "The Lord of the Rings Online."
State leaders are taking notice.
Gov. Deval Patrick spent part of his recent trip to the West Coast pitching Massachusetts as an East Coast mecca of gaming technology.
The lure is understandable. While other sectors of the economy are slashing jobs, video gaming companies are thriving as eager investors pump in millions to help develop the next generation of games.
