A 32-year-old Virginia man was arrested in the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl in Littleton.
Police say Daniel O'Brien, of Richmond, Va., was taken into custody Friday in connection with the incident.
The 32-year-old was arraigned today in Ayer District Court and held on $50,000 bail or $500,000 surety.
The girl's parents told police they began questioning her strange behavior and looked into her backpack, where they discovered a change of clothes and money.
After checking e-mail exchanges between the girl and O’Brien, the parents also learned the two had been communicating for a couple of months. O'Brien claimed to be 25 years old. Police were notified on Friday morning.
Police say the girl wrote on a Web site that she wished to run away. The Web site was not named. O'Brien allegedly told the girl he would help her.
Using Facebook to help nab the suspect, police say they found his picture online, got on a train and followed him to Littleton and arrested O’Brien just as he was getting off the train.
Police say O'Brien admitted he was in Massachusetts to take the girl back to Virginia and that he knew she was only 12 years old. He told police he was going to bring her home to "kiss her, lick her and suck her and get her to love him and have babies together."
O'Brien had tickets for the girl and himself to return to Virginia, police said.
