SAUGUS (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An arrest has been made in the cold case hit-and-run of a Saugus man.

On Tuesday, FOX 25’s Bob Ward retold the story of 81-year-old Christos Agganis who was tragically hit by a car while crossing Central Street on Jan. 28, 2010.

A person called in a tip after seeing the story, resulting in the arrest of 24-year-old Steffany Barbanti on Thursday for her alleged role in the hit-and-run.

Agganis was heading to the Hammersmith Inn restaurant where he was a regular. His nephew, Peter Politis, says Agganis had his own special seat where he ate dinner every night. Politis watched in horror as a white car barreled down the road and into his Uncle Chris.

Christos lost consciousness during the accident. He would never wake up.

Police tell FOX 25 an anonymous tipster came forward after Bob Ward's story aired on Tuesday. That tip brought forward a witness who claimed Barbanti's vehicle was fixed after sustaining at least a broken windshield.

Nearly two years later to the day, the white car that allegedly caused the 81-year-old's death has been impounded. Barbanti is set to be arraigned on Monday.
