BOSTON - A flood watch remained in effect for much of Massachusetts as a wind-whipped storm moved through the area, dumping several inches of rain.

In Boston, the flooding of the Muddy River has forced the cancellation of service on the Green Line in between the Reservoir and Kenmore stops. For updates on the MBTA service, click here . For more on the flooding of the Muddy River, watch Alison Bologna's report to the left.

The annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston went on as scheduled despite the poor weather, which brought wind gusts near 60 mph late Saturday and early Sunday.

Authorities say eastern Massachusetts took the brunt of the storm, and that high tides along the coastline are likely to cause erosion through Monday afternoon.

Around 9,000 customers remained without power late Sunday, mostly in southeast Massachusetts and on the Cape.

The storm was part of a larger blast of bad weather that struck the northeast over the weekend and knocked over trees and power lines in several states.

Police in Darien, Conn., reported that more than 50 trees had fallen in town, taking down power lines and closing roads Saturday afternoon. Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating say about 80,000 customers are without power late Saturday. Residents of Fairfield's shoreline were being urged to evacuate because of potential flooding.

The Saturday night forecast in coastal Connecticut predicted gusts as high as 60 miles per hour and 2 inches of rain. Forecasters at the National Weather Service called for the same rain amounts and wind gust speeds in southern Rhode Island.
