EASTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Easton police are searching for the Dunkin’ Donuts thief who took off with donations to benefit cancer.

The American Cancer Society-Making Strides Against Breast Cancer donation canister was taken on Feb. 24 from the Dunkin’ Donuts shop at 700 Depot St. on Route 123.

Surveillance video shows two brothers and a young girl walk into the store. One of the brothers snatched the jar as an employee walked away to take an order.

“I was kind of shocked at the brazenness of swiping the can,” said Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik.

All three were observed leaving the Dunkin’ Donuts in a black SUV.

When FOX25 was at the Dunkin’ Donut reporting the story on Wednesday, the same black SUV pulled up to the drive-thru window. Police immediately pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver, who identified himself as the brother of the suspect seen on surveillance.

The man said he had no idea his brother stole the jar. Police say the suspect is from Fall River, and his brother is from Brockton.

Police believe the canister contained between $50 and $75.

The American Cancer Society released the following statement:

The American Cancer Society and its volunteers are grateful to the many local businesses in communities around the state willing to help raise awareness and funds to support the Society's mission to eliminate cancer. While these incidents are rare, it is still very unfortunate and we'd like to express our thanks to the local police working to resolve the matter.
