SWAMPSCOTT (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Charges have been dropped against a Swampscott man who punched a suspected thief outside his home.

Anthony McKay’s attorney tells FOX 25 that all charges have been dropped against his client.

McKay was charged with assault and battery after breaking 28-year-old Christian Johnson’s jaw. He says that Johnson was trying to steal tools from the back of his truck.

When he confronted Johnson, the alleged thief pushed him and reached for something in his pocket so McKay defended himself.

Attorney Richard Chambers Jr. credited FOX 25 for covering the story first and helping the case receive a great deal of media attention.
