Darren Caswell ordered held without bail in 2003 murder

A 44-year-old Middleborough man has been ordered held without bail in connection with the death of a Kingston man six years ago.

Darren Caswell pleaded not guilty Monday to a murder charge in Brockton Superior Court.

Police arrested Caswell on Friday and charged him in connection with the death of 26-year-old Matthew Cote in August 2003.

Cote's body was discovered in the back of a pickup truck in Carver. His body had been so severely burned that dental records were used to identify the remains.

An autopsy determined that he had died before the fire of multiple trauma.

Caswell's attorney, Kevin Reddington, said in court his client has cooperated with authorities for years and knew for several months about possible charges.
