CONCORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Voters have banned the sale of bottled water in Concord, effective Jan. 1, 2011.
The vote occurred Thursday night during the Concord Town Meeting's final session.
The Concord Journal is reporting that the ban was championed by petitioner Jean Hill, who gave a slide presentation at the meeting about the environmental impact of plastic bottles.
The legality of the decision is still a matter up for discussion. The attorney general will have to decide whether or not the town meeting has the authority to ban a product from an entire town.
Many in say it makes little sense for Concord to ban the sale of a product that’s easy to buy in every bordering town.
Industry advocates said they are not aware of any other town that has taken such strong action against the sale of bottled water.
