WEYMOUTH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A repeat drunk driver from North Weymouth man drove drunk with his 6-year-old daughter in the front seat without a seat belt when he struck another vehicle and left the scene, according to police.
Michael J. Tompkins II has been charged with drunken driving, child endangerment while under the influence of alcohol, failing to properly restrain a child in a vehicle, failing to stop for a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident and driving to endanger.
He was arraigned today in Quincy District Court.
Police say the 40-year-old was behind the wheel when his minivan hit the back of a car on Norton Street just before 5 p.m. on Friday.
Tompkins allegedly drove away from the crash, but the woman whose car he allegedly hit followed him and called authorities. When police stopped him, he allegedly stumbled out of the car. When asked about his daughter, Tompkins said that it wasn't his 6-year-old daughter in the car, it was his 17-year-old girlfriend.
No one was hurt in the crash.
Police called Tompkins' wife who picked up the child. The state Department of Children and Families has also been notified.
