PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - A New Hampshire teenager was arrested after allegedly putting Lysol in her mother's drink.
Brittany Merrill, 17, of Portsmouth, was charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct. She was arraigned yesterday in Hampton District Court.
Police say Merrill put Lysol in her mother's Kool-Aid to get back at her mother for an argument they had two days prior at their Ledgewood Drive home.
The mother detected a chemical smell, stopped drinking and called 911 because her throat was burning, according police said. Emergency responders arrived at the victim's home at about 1:30 a.m. after she consumed some of the tainted drink. The victim did not want to be taken to the hospital.
The mother obtained a court order barring her daughter from having contact with her. Because of the no-contact order, Merrill will not have a place to live if she posts bail.
Merrill's bail was set at $500 cash. She was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. DCYF will be notified about her situation in the event that she needs housing.
