BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A man who was in prison for attempted murder and escaped from police in Chelsea will appear in court today.

Joel McDonald, 20, of Chelsea, is expected to face arraignment this morning in Suffolk Superior Court following his indictment for allegedly escaping from custody of the police transporting him to court on an attempted murder charge.

McDonald, who is charged with armed assault with intent to murder and other offenses for a Jan. 21 shooting near his Hawthorne Street home, allegedly fled Chelsea Police as they prepared to take him to Chelsea District Court on April 22.

McDonald was later arrested in Dorchester and is currently being held on $1 million cash bail.
