BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Hurricane Earl is causing problems for Labor Day weekend travelers up and down the East Coast as it heads toward New England.

Amtrak has suspended train service between New York and Boston until Saturday morning. The rail carrier had planned to stop service by 4:30 p.m. Friday, but trains were stopped earlier when a tree fell across electrical lines in New London, Conn.

Continental Airlines has canceled at least 60 flights, and some other regional carriers had also canceled flights. American, Delta, US Airways and United reported few or no cancellations.

On Massachusetts' Cape Cod, ferries to and from Nantucket are suspended.

Earl was packing winds of up to 80 mph Friday but has been losing strength.
