CHELSEA (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An explosive device was found in front of a Dollar Tree store in Chelsea Wednesday afternoon after a bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious package.

Chelsea Police received a call around 2:30 p.m. that there was a suspicious package behind the Dollar Tree Store in the Home Depot Plaza on Revere Beach Parkway.

Officers determined that the package was some type of makeshift explosive. The Bomb Squad from the Boston Police assisted and removed the item -- it was taken away and destroyed.

There was a fuse on this device, but no mechanism for detonating it remotely -- but police say that someone made a definite attempt to make and place this item in this location.

Police say that they are following some leads, there have been no arrests.
