The woman hailed as a hero for shooting Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan and ending his rampage at Fort Hood used to work in a Newton bar.
Sgt. Kimberly Munley worked for a couple of years as a waitress at Dunn-Gaherin’s Food & Spirit, an Irish pub in Newton Upper Falls.
"She did touch a lot of lives around here, so you want people to know that it is her. It is that person that you remember," co-owner Seana Gaherin said.
Gaherin said they've been getting calls from patrons who remembered her.
“We’re so happy that she’s okay. We thought last night when we were reflecting that possibly we could be talking about, you know, the ‘other situation.’ We just hope for a speedy recovery for her,” Gaherin said.
Gaherin said Munley was very driven and wanted to be a police officer in Massachusetts.
Munley shot Hasan four times and was shot once herself.
Thirteen people were killed and 31 were wounded.
Munley was in stable condition.
