BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Massachusetts-based student immigrant group has announced plans to set up a makeshift school in front of the U.S. Capitol, reminiscent of 1960s "teach-ins," to push a bill that would give undocumented students a pathway to citizenship.
Members of the Student Immigrant Movement said Wednesday they will make regular trips to Washington, D.C., to attend "Dream University," an informal college featuring lectures by professors.
The effort is part of a push for the proposed federal DREAM act -- a bill that would allow illegal immigrants a means to qualify for citizenship through college enrollment.
Carlos Saavedra, national coordinator at Washington, D.C.-based United We Dream, said students from around the country have "registered" for scheduled lectures.
