BRIDGEWATER - A man who was recently indicted for rape walked away from his minimum security lockup in Bridgewater on Friday night, and still has not been found.
Manson Brown, 51, was serving a 10-year sentence at the Old Colony Correctional Center in Bridgewater for armed home invasion and robbery.
Brown was scheduled for release in October 2012, according to a Department of Corrections spokesman.
It is unclear why Brown remained in minimum security after his recent rape indictment.
Brown works in the prison kitchen and apparently walked away between 5:40 p.m. and about 6:30 p.m.
He was declared missing about 8:15 p.m.
Police set up checkpoints throughout the town and used dogs in the search for Brown on Saturday. He may be wearing a black, nylon windbreaker jacket, with gray sweatpants and a white shirt.
On Nov. 20, Brown was indicted for two counts of rape for a 1996 attack in Cambridge.
