DUDLEY, Mass. - A Massachusetts man has pleaded not guilty to hitting and killing a Texas couple who were changing a tire on their camper in the breakdown lane of an interstate highway.

Geoffrey Wahome, of Lowell, was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty in Dudley District Court on Tuesday to charges including motor vehicle homicide by negligent driving.

Police say Wahome told them he was returning from a concert in New Jersey when his car struck 81-year-old Robert Farner and 77-year-old Chloe Farner of Cottonwood Shores, Texas, at the side of Interstate 395 in Webster at about 6:40 a.m. on Aug. 1.

State police said Wahome's "fatigue and inattention" contributed to the crash.

Wahome is due back in court on Nov. 1.
