Police say two men were attacked by a man with a hatchet after arguing in a Roxbury apartment on Friday night.
One of the victims, 52-year-old Darrell Thompson, talked to FOX25’s Adam Pellerin after he got out of the hospital.
Thompson said he and his friend, 48-year-old Reginald Gardner were having a few drinks with their friend, who lives on Blue Hill Avenue with her adult son. When their friend’s son came home at about 9 p.m., the son allegedly grabbed a hatchet and started attacking the two men.
“All of the sudden he just burst in the door and said 'I don’t want anyone around my [expletive] mother,'” Thompson said. “He just started whacking my friend, just whacking him and whacking him.”
Thompson said he tried to get out of the apartment but the suspect blocked him in and began hitting him with the hatchet. Thompson had a wound on his eyebrow and a defensive wound on his hand.
He said his friend got it much worse.
Thompson managed to get out of the apartment and call police and both men were taken to the hospital.
Gardner was still in the intensive care unit at Boston Medical Center on Saturday night.
“He split his head open about 11 inches, and then seven inches down the side of his face,” Thompson said.
Gardner is expected to survive.
“The way he was carrying on, we should both be dead,” said Thompson.
The suspect is still on the loose. The mother was not hurt.
