WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Clinton man has been sentenced to up to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to child rape charges.
Juan Nieves was sentenced yesterday in Worcester Superior Court to three to five years behind bars, followed by five years of probation after pleading guilty to rape of a child and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that the unrelated drug charge was reduced from cocaine trafficking under a plea agreement.
Prosecutors say the 28-year-old Nieves had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl in March 2008 at the Clinton home of a relative. The girl reported the rape to police after learning she was pregnant.
Nieves' lawyer asked for a lighter sentence because the sex was consensual.
