SALEM, Mass. - A 93-year-old motorist who police said crashed his car through the front entrance of a Danvers Wal-Mart, injuring a woman and her 1-year-old daughter, has been ordered not to drive.
Louis Vesprini pleaded not guilty Thursday in Salem District Court to negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The Peabody resident was released on his own recognizance and given a bail warning.
Vesprini faces a maximum of two years in jail if he is convicted.
Police say Vesprini drove his car in June between protective concrete pillars, penetrating 40 feet into the store. A 25-year-old Gloucester woman and her daughter were injured. The baby underwent surgery for facial and head injuries.
Vesprini's attorney, Paul Markham, declined to comment on the case.
