NORWOOD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Matt Brown made an appearance at the state Little League championships in Norwood tonight. The game was on the same field where the Norwood High hockey player played just a few years ago before a neck injury left him paralyzed.
"It's an absolute honor to be out here," said 16-year-old Matt.
Matt was at the game with his father Michael, who threw out the first pitch at tonight's game. Since his neck injury in January, Matt has been on the road to recovery. He attended returned rehab in Atlanta in May, and after significant progress, he experienced an incredible breakthrough two weeks ago.
"A couple of weeks ago I voluntarily moved my left leg-They told me to tighten up, I kicked a couple of times," said Matt.
Matt's father, Michael Brown, along with wife, Sue and daughter, Kelly, have been adjusting to what they call "the new normal" after the medical breakthrough. Matt says his goal is to walk again, and his family knows they have to have patience and perseverance.
"I don't worry about next week. I don't worry about next year, I'm just in the now. If we have a great day, we have a great day. We'll worry about tomorrow when we get there," Michael said.
