Worker not in trouble for Christmas message

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An MBTA worker who posted a season's greeting for T riders will not be punished, according to Richard Davey, Mass. DOT secretary and former head of the MBTA.

The lyrics to "Deck the Halls" flashed across the automated message board and over the speakers of the Park Street station Christmas night after an employee entered the festive song into the system.

While the MBTA says unauthorized messages are against the rules, the employee will not be in trouble. Davey appeared on the FOX 25 Morning News, commending the employee's work record.

Passenger Maryam Monalisa Gharavi took a cell phone video of the message because it gave "festive joy" to passengers.

"Everybody was just grinning and thought it was wonderful," Gharavi said.

Gharavi says the video she posted has received an overwhelming response on Twitter, most viewers defending the dispatcher.

"It really lightened the mood," she said, adding that with all the construction on the MBTA "the T could use this right now."
