PITTSFIELD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Pittsfield's new minor league baseball franchise has announced that it will be known as the Colonials and retain former Boston Red Sox player Brian Daubach as its manager.
Daubach managed the team last season when it was known as the American Defenders of New Hampshire.
Daubach, who played five of his eight major league seasons in Boston, tells The Berkshire Eagle he is looking forward to returning to Pittsfield where he played minor league ball in the early 1990s.
The nickname was chosen following a name-the-team contest in the newspaper.
The team plays in the independent Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, which includes Massachusetts-based teams the Brockton Rox and Worcester Tornadoes.
