LEVERETT, Mass. - Amtrak is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a train in western Massachusetts.

Spokesman Cliff Cole says the Amtrak Vermonter struck and killed a person who was trespassing on the tracks in the town of Leverett. The incident happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Cole said he had no information about the person who was killed.

There were no injuries to any of the 63 passengers on the southbound train, which was traveling from St. Albans, Vt., to Washington, D.C.

Cole said the train was being held on the tracks until the investigation was completed.
