Authorities say they have found a body in the submerged car of a missing Peabody woman not far from where she was last seen almost a year ago.
Essex District Attorney's spokesman Steve O'Connell said Wednesday that Alice Nunes' identification was found with the body, though it hasn't been positively identified. Her car was pulled from Flax Pond in Lynn around 3:40 p.m.
The 57-year-old woman was last seen in December 2008. Her husband John said she called him frantically to say water was coming into her car, about 10 minutes after a witness saw a woman fitting her description leaving a Lynn bar. The bar is about a half-mile from the pond.
O'Connell said the car was found about 16 feet under water, 40 feet from the curved road.
Flax Pond and nearby bodies of water had been searched earlier.
Police said another car was also found in Flax Pond on Wednesday that was stolen from Peabody 10 years ago.
