STONEHAM, Mass. (FOX25, myfoxboston) - A rabid fox was shot dead by police after it attacked a 6-year-old girl in a Stoneham neighborhood on Thursday morning.

The girl suffered three scratches and was bleeding after the attack, and another neighbor was attacked later in the day.

Lisa Alexander said her autistic daughter Kimberly was walking to school when the fox chased her into the garage and attacked. Kimberly’s older cousin was able to chase the fox off.

Lisa Alexander called police, but she says they never came, and later in the day she heard screaming from outside.

“I heard screaming from next door and I found my neighbor on the roof of her car with the fox attached to her ankles,” said Alexander.

Alexander’s neighbor had gone outside in her nightgown to move her car when the fox attacked again.

Police responded and killed the fox.

Alexander says the whole thing could’ve been avoided.

They fox reportedly attacked two people on Wednesday, and Alexander says the neighborhood should’ve received a warning.

Rabies tests by the Stoneham Board of Health came back positive.
