Schools cutting back on recess

DEDHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The dog days of summer are slowly coming to an end but until then Dave is making the best of his outdoor play

He'll be a first grader at Oakdale Elementary this year which is one of the schools in the Dedham district cutting back on recess. Dedham is just one town across the state taking a second look at the number of hours kids spend in recess.

In a letter to parents, Dedham school officials indicate that for the 2010-2011 school year, there will no longer be a morning recess at any of the elementary schools.

Parents tell FOX 25 that several schools in the district have not met par levels when it comes to standardized tests but still, they aren't sold on the new concept.

While it appears the district is leaving A.M. play to the discretion of teachers parents say let kids be kids.
