BOSTON (FOX25, myfoxboston) - A 72-year-old store owner's assistant was shot and killed in Dorchester on Sunday morning after he apparently did not comply with an armed robber’s requests, police said.
Geraldo Cerrano of Jamaica Plain was shot in the throat inside of Hermanos Unidos grocery store on 728 Dudley St.
Police said two men entered the store at about 10:50 a.m. armed with handguns. The store owner, Cerrano and a customer were inside at the time.
During the robbery police say Cerrano put up a struggle and one of the robbers shot him in the throat.
Police said there was no surveillance inside the store but surrounding business may have captured the suspect on tape.
“We’re working today to try to put together any physical evidence we can here in the store, and to get information out as soon as possible on the descriptions of the two individuals,” said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.
Boston patrol officers were given initial descriptions of the two suspects, but Davis said that information won't be released to the media until later.
Cerrano, who was originally from Puerto Rico, was a father of 9 and a grandfather to several children.
