DURHAM, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - In an effort to encourage students to come forward if they or some else is at risk from alcohol or drug poisoning, the University of New Hampshire may grant amnesty for those treated for an alcohol or drug related emergency.

According to fosters.com, the proposal has been in the works at the University for over a year.

The policy will only apply in instances where a student in distress from the misuse of drugs or alcohol - or one of their peers - brings it to the attention of the school.

If the student is 'found' by the police or by other school staff, the policy does not apply.

After the incident, students would need to fill out a “Request to Invoke Medical Amnesty Form” and the Office of Judicial Affairs would then accept or deny the request.

Currently, students who violate alcohol policies at UNH can lose their housing and their academic standing at the university among other things.

What are you thought on this?
