Trick-or-treater killed by falling tree in Pelham, N.H.

PELHAM, N.H. - It is being described by police as a terrible and unusual accident.

A 10-year-old boy was struck and killed by a falling birch tree while trick-or-treating in Pelham, N.H. That boy has been identified as Christian Gualtieri.

Pelham police and firefighters responded to Fineview Circle at about 6:36 p.m. on Saturday where the boy was in cardiac arrest.

Christian was going to door to door with about 20 kids when suddenly a branch broke from the tree. It had just started to rain and the winds were getting heavy.

The boy was taken to Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Mass., where he was pronounced dead.

Family members, friends and neighbors are all heartbroken.

Police said it appears that strong wind conditions caused the tree to fall and they do not expect to press any criminal charges.
