CLINTON, Mass. (FOX25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Police allegedly shot and killed two English mastiffs after the dogs seriously injured another neighborhood dog and then tried to attack police.

The two dogs apparently dug their way out of a fenced yard while their owners were away on vacation.

Neighbor Walter O'Clair says he was working in his garage with his toy poodle Dusty when the two dogs came running across yard and began attacking Dusty. O'Clair says he wrestled with the dogs to keep them from killing the poodle - receiving 11 puncture wounds on his body in the process, his wife said.

He says he was able to get in his car and call police.

The dogs were shot when they allegedly tried to attack police, just after 10:30 this morning. The victim says police fired 11 shots at the dogs to take them down.

The poodle is expected to be okay and is on antibiotics.
