BOSTON (FOX25, myfoxboston) - A woman wanted in the recent kidnapping of her half-sister’s one-year-old daughter has been apprehended.
The Massachusetts State Police announced today that Kimberly Johnson, 38, who had been missing since the kidnapping on Thursday, was found last night in Altoona, Penn and was immediately placed under arrest.
Johnson was staying at a women’s shelter where she was using an alias and a stolen I.D. At the time of her arrest, she was driving the stolen vehicle that was used in the abduction.
Johnson is wanted in the kidnapping of Jaylin Bourdia from a gas station in Swansea. She drove off with the baby while the mother was inside the store getting coffee.
The abduction triggered an Amber Alert that ended a few hours later when Bourdia was found alone but unharmed in an industrial park in Middletown, Conn. with nothing but a diaper bag.
Police and prosecutors said they are working with Pennsylvania authorities to arrange Johnson's return to face a Massachusetts kidnapping charge.
