Mayor Tom Menino: No plans to evict Occupy Boston

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - In the wake of a raid on Occupy Wall Street in New York, Boston Mayor Tom Menino said he has no plans to evict Occupy Boston from Dewey Square.

Mayor Menino said relations have been good with protesters and they will be allowed to stay as long as things remain peaceful.

Despite the apparent good will, members of Occupy Boston filed a request in State Superior Court to legally prevent the City of Boston from evicting them like their Occupy New York counterparts who were evicted from Wall Street during the early morning hours Tuesday.

Several hundred marched from Dewey Square to the Statehouse to denounce the overnight raid on Occupy Wall Street in which New York City police removed tents and arrested dozens in an effort to shut down the nearly two-month demonstration in Lower Manhattan.

Occupy Boston protesters chanted, "New York is Boston, Boston is New York."

The march was peaceful and there were no arrests.

A judge is expected to rule on the Occupy Boston protesters' request Wednesday morning.
