BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Columbus... Edison ... Einstein. All names that may no longer be in History textbooks in the state of Texas.

The Texas Board of Education is rewriting the History books, and it's sparking controversy from both sides.

Liberals in the state want to remove references to Christmas, whereas Conservatives are leaning towards a more religious feel, including mentioning that George Washington was saved in battle by Divine Intervention.

There are already concerns over some of the names being erased from the books.  An early draft left out the following:

  • Neil Armstrong
  • Christopher Columbus
  • Thomas Edison
  • Albert Einstein

Later drafts included Armstrong and Columbus, but left the others out.

Texas is one of the largest buyers of textbooks and what they buy can impact the books bought in other states.

A Rasmussen Poll asked Who Should Have the Final Say on Textbooks:

  • 34% Teachers
  • 24% Parents
  • 15% Local Government
  • 9% Federal Government
  • 9% State Government

The Texas Board of Education is expected to make their decision in May.
