BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A new bill on Beacon Hill would ban parents from engaging in sexual relationships within the home until their divorces are final.
Wrentham Selectman Robert Leclair says the bill is meant to prevent domestic violence and shield children while the divorce is underway.
Critics say it takes away parents rights.
The bill would prevent divorcing parents from “conducting a dating or sexual relationship within the home” until the divorce is final.
Leclair, who reportedly has gone through a bitter divorce himself, is the former president of Fathers United for Equal Justice, which disbanded in the 1990s.
In addition to the divorce bill, local lawmakers will also consider a bill this week to reform the state's alimony laws .
The bill would end lifetime alimony payments in most cases and cap how much one spouse is ordered to pay the other.
The state's current law does not contain any duration limits for alimony.
Most states have done away with lifetime alimony.
