BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - If you think of the most famous name in politics, you’ll probably come up with Kennedy.
But with Rep. Patrick Kennedy’s retirement announcement, and Republican Sen. Scott Brown’s victory over Democrat Martha Coakley, lately the Kennedy name has stood for failure in politics.
Has the fairy tale ended?
Rep. Kennedy’s retirement ended a 60-year family reign in Washington, but well before then, the cracks in the family dynasty were showing. Don’t forget Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's failed bid for governor in Maryland, and Caroline Kennedy's embarrassing attempt to get a U.S. Senate seat in New York.
But here in Massachusetts, the Kennedy’s political influence remained huge until the Scott Brown victory.
The latest sign that the dynasty may be over: former Rep. Joe Kennedy's son passed on an opportunity to run for Congress, rather than risk rejection by voters.
But former Kennedy aide Scott Ferson doesn’t think the reign is over.
“History will show no Kennedy has lost in Massachusetts,” he said.
A new Rasmussen poll shows 58 percent of voters in the state agree that the Kennedy dynasty is over.
