(NewsCore) - Suspense thriller ’The American’ starring George Clooney as an assassin took the lead at the U.S. box office during the Labor Day weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Clooney's film brought in $12.9 million, while crime drama ’Takers’ fell from first to second place with $11.4 million and action thriller ’Machete’ came in third with $11.3 million, according to Sunday estimates.
Thriller "Last Exorcism" earned $7.5 million and the romantic comedy ’Going the Distance" starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long rounded out the top five with $6.9 million, the entertainment Website reported.
