(NewsCore) - Bee Gees star Robin Gibb is recovering from emergency stomach surgery after suffering excruciating intestinal pains, WENN news reported Thursday.
Family and friends feared the ’Stayin’ Alive’ singer might have the same health condition that unexpectedly killed his twin brother Maurice when he fell ill last month.
’Robin's consultant has recommended complete rest in order to speed his recovery,’ his rep said in a statement.
Maurice Gibb, 53, died from a heart attack in 2003 during surgery for a twisted intestine. The Bee Gees temporarily retired after 45 years of entertaining after his death.
In 2009, the group’s remaining members Robin, 60, and brother Barry Gibb, 64, announced the group would ’reform and perform again.’
’The brothers have finally `got through the breakwater of emotions’ following Maurice's death,’ Robin told BBC radio in 2009.
"[Maurice was] not just a brother but a comrade in arms really ... It's an emotional thing when you lose someone that close."
The British brothers were expected to launch a tour at the end of 2010 but after Robin’s health scare on August 18 it was unclear if it would proceed according to schedule, the celebrity news website said.
