(NewsCore) - A Bahamas judge dropped the charges against two defendants accused of trying to extort money from John Travolta at the actor’s request, RadarOnline reported Monday.
Tarino Lightbourne and Pleasant Bridgewater were accused of trying to extort millions of dollars from Travolta by threatening to make public a ’refusal to transport’ ambulance waiver signed by Travolta on Jan. 2, 2009, the day his autistic 16-year-old son Jett died.
"The defendants have been discharged," said Neil Braithwaite, Chief Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General in the Bahamas.
A previous trial for Lightbourne and Bridgewater ended in a mistrial due to jury misconduct.
Braithwaite said Travolta was no longer interested in pursuing the case because it has caused his family ’great emotional distress,’ and a retrial would require him to testify about the events surrounding Jett’s death.
Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston announced in August that they are expecting a baby boy. They also have a daughter named Ella, age 10.
